Respect Is The Essence of Torah
When Rebe Eliezer was in the throes of his final illness, his students came to visit and asked him, "Show us the paths of life so that we can inherent a share in the World to Come." He responded, "Be careful to give properhonor to your friends." Instead of referring to the esoteric wisdom revealed in the Torah, Rebe Eliezer chose a simple ethic to guide the students to "the paths of eternal life." Lesson: The essence of the holy Torah is summarized into one principle and its fulfillment: "Be careful to honor all other people." App: Make respecting other people the most important priority of your life -- and access the path that leads to the World to Come. (Based on Brachos 28b)
