The Everyday Miracles of Nature
The Chashmonayim found one cruse of oil that was sufficient to burn for one day. Miraculously it burned for an additional seven days. Yet, we celebrate Chanukah for eight days, even though the first day doesn't seem to be part of the miracle?
Lesson: "Nature," i.e., such as the fact that oil burns, is a miracle in and of itself. The flame that burned on the first day was a true miracle of HaShem. Therefore, the first day is also included in the eight days of celebration.
App: When you light your Chanukah lights, thank HaShem for all the miracles in your life -- the obvious ones as well as the everyday miracles of "nature."
