A Tenacious Self-Esteem
"Protect me HaShem, for I am good; save Your servant, my G-d, who trusts in You" (Tehillim 86). King David viewed himself worthy of HaShem's protection. Yet, on another occasion, he expressed that he wasn't sure that he would merit a share in the World to Come. How could he hold two opposite views of himself? The answer is, he always saw himself as good because he fully dedicated himself to serve HaShem. On the other hand, he had the humility to know that every human being is vulnerable to be swayed by the negative influence.
Lesson: King David always felt positive about himself because he tenaciously guarded his self-esteem.
App: In every situation, always see yourself as worthy -- and illuminate the world with your light of goodness! (Based on the commentary of Rashi to Brachos 4a)
