The Torah of Sinai
"Moshe received the Torah from Sinai" (Avos 1:1). The essential and primary knowledge that Moshe attained at Mount Sinai was his deep understanding and awareness of HaShem. This is called the "Torah of Sinai." True Torah thought pertains, not to knowing the law, but to the great knowledge of knowing HaShem. The attainment of knowing HaShem is marked by one's sense of awe and love of HaShem -- this is the "Torah of Truth."
Lesson: The knowledge of the Torah laws is insufficient without the deep understanding and awareness of HaShem.
App: Envision yourself standing at Mount Sinai hearing HaShem speak, see the the flame raising from the mountain to the heart of Heaven, and stand in awe in front of HaShem. (Based on the commentary of the Seforno to Pirkei Avos) |
